Dear Friends of the Carrot, Diggers of Beets. Buddies of Beans,
A yet unseen varmint, probably a groundhog (or a whole pack of them),
has been gobbling a considerable amount of garden plants. I set out
a live-trap for it this morning, baited with apples. I put it on the
edge of the garden strip in the shaded area. It would probably be
more effective right at the scene of the crime, but the animals could
suffer if they are left in the sun. I'll check it every three to
four hours today, but close it at night because we're likely to catch
a skunk instead. If anyone is visiting the garden, please take a
look and see if there is anything in the trap. If there is something
in the trap, please call me at UW, 888-4567, ext. 36577, or at home ,
725-1059. Deportation to some verdant rural location will follow
Larry Lamb, the supervisor of the ecology lab in Environmental
Studies, has assisted students in designing and planting native plant
landscaping at UW. Help is needed to weed these areas. You can
contact Larry at extension 32646 or at lelamb at fesmail.uwaterloo.ca
