Food System Roundtable Launches Website, Calls for Members
November 4, 2008
Waterloo, ON - The Waterloo Region Food System Roundtable is pleased to
announce the public launch of its new website and invites all those
interested in working towards a healthier food system in Waterloo Region to
register on the site and begin connecting with others who share their
interest.
At the same time, the Roundtable is seeking nominations to fill eight
vacancies in its membership. The vacant positions are two-year terms,
beginning in 2009. Nominations must be received by November 14, 2008.
The main purpose of the Roundtable is to encourage networking among the
various sectors and interests in our local food system and to continue to
identify and prioritize strategies to improve the food system's health.
The Roundtable was established in November 2007 at a public event at
Conestoga College in Waterloo, and has been meeting bi-monthly since. A
full description of the Roundtable's history, mandate, and current
priorities is available on its website at www.wrfoodsystem.ca.
The new website has been designed to function as a place where people of
various backgrounds who share an interest in the food system can identify
themselves and their interests to each other and work to identify ways of
improving the food system's health. The website contains a utility which
allows people to post profiles of themselves so that others can connect with
them. It also contains a Discussion Forum, information on upcoming
food-related events in the region, and a repository for the latest research
and sources of information on the food system.
To nominate yourself or a friend to fill one of the eight vacancies on the
Roundtable, please send a short description of the person - along with a
description of which key interest or sector of the food system the person
could speak for on the Roundtable, and what issues are most important to
that sector or interest - to Marc Xuereb by Friday, November 14. Please
forward this email to friends you think may be interested.
Membership selection decisions will be made on November 19th.
