[Garden] One meeting this Wednesday, another on Thursday

Hi Alicia,

I may be able to come this afternoon (It's today, right?).
I would really like to meet the members, as I missed last week's meeting. Where is the garden located?

  Hi Gardeners,

  I'm planning on going to the garden this Wednesday around 5pm. I tend to stay for at least a couple of hours so please do come out and join me if you want, I welcome the company :D.

  Also, soil testing is being done next week Tuesday (May 5) at 1pm at Larry Lamb's lab on UW campus (EV2 1029B and/or EV2 1033). Email me privately if you think you can come out - many hands make light work. The testing should take a couple of hours.

    I think it is very important for people to realize that we can meet more
    than one night a week. There is lots of interest this year, so I
    honestly see no reason why we don't have two nights a week, and one day
    on the weekend. In reality, it will still not be regular enough to keep
    the weeds at bay :(

    Here is a shortenned form of a task list for the next few weeks. These
    items can all be done by anyone at any time, even if you decide to pop
    by during lunch or coffee breaks :)

    - Turn over beds. Get the weeds growing so we can pull the first round
    prior to planting
    - Clean our the stuff from under the rows of trees. Both sides of the
    garden have old dead growth that should be cleaned up, old pallets that
    we can probably throw out, etc...
    - Remove and/or fix all fencing. Most of it is falling over or in a
    state that rodents can easily crawl under
    - Plan where to put seedlings / direct seeded vegetables
    - At the least, minimize the size of the paths. or, remove them
    completely (I am an advocate of one path through the middle only)
    - prune trees
    - prune gooseberry bushes
    - Decide where to plant pole beans and such and create latticework that
    will not fall over half way through season :)
    - Create good permanent markers for beds. Something that won't wear off
    with the weather to label what is planted in each bed.
    - Decide if the strawberries have encroached too much on the herb bed,
    thin / move them as needed
    - I think the shed is clean and organized, but that might be a task.
    Someone had a great idea about how to organize the gloves
    - Deal with wasps in shed
    - clean all tools, hoses. Take home and wash gloves that need washing
    - Decide what to do with the bags of fertilizery type stuff in the shed
    - Make a sign for the compost bin showing which bin to put fresh
    compostables in
    - Perhaps touch up the paint on the garden sign. Another one at the
    other end of the garden might be nice
    - Shortly we should have compost I think, so lots of hauling will ensue

    That should get us going for the next couple of weeks. Perhaps we can
    put this on a wiki somewhere (I assume wpirg has one we could possibly
    use?) so that people can add to it as we go. Also, I will print it off
    and hang it up in the shed. When a task is complete, we can cross it off
    the list. When we see a new task that needs to be done, we can add it
    in. Or, we can continue using the log book. I think we do need a master
    list of 'things to be done' though

    Anyway, that is my book for the day.
