I would prefer that we hand-weed or use a hoe. We have never
cultivated that area of the garden before, so it is no surprise that
it is weedy (last year it was all grass and ragweed). Maybe I will
take a stab at it on Sunday. 

My understanding is also that compost cooks quicker if it is in a
mound than spread thinly. 

Having said that I am not going to argue this too strongly. My real
preference would be to get a few more gardeners out; many hands make
for light work. There are 66 people on this mailing list, after all.
