Hi Paul,

Unless I missed an email, it looks like you're our lucky spokesperson!

I think you know the drill (five minute talk near
the beginning and mingling with new volunteers
after the presentations) so if others are
interested, can you coordinate with them?

Cheers,
Evan

I forget where I seen this but I recall a method used to reduce weeds
in a garden is to put a layer of newspaper down.  The roots of the
weeds cant get through it and over time it will degrade.  So if we
rake up the woodchips and lay down some newspaper we can put the
woodchips over top of the newspaper and see if it works.  Cheap, easy
and hopefully works!

As most of you probably saw, it was pouring rain last night :)

Britton and I were at the garden for about four minutes (until 6:15,
then we packed it in). We noted that a bunch of the spinach and lettuce
that was planted is coming up :)

Also, the compost has arrived :)

Gardeners,
Hooray for compost, now we just have to pay for it :)
Where was the compost dumped? Has the wood chip pile been moved?

Alas. I am a fair-weather friend to the garden.

> Also, the compost has arrived :)

Is the usual plan to shovel compost first, and then rototill it all
together later?

This might be a good time to pull the leeks from last year. They were
intended as a spring treat, not as a permanent fixture.

I don't think we need to rototill at all. Candace and I were easily able
to turn about 1 foot of soil over in the bed near the compost heap. I
think doing this for all the beds is sufficient, and saves us effort in
trying to hunt down a tiller.

It sounds like some people will be out later in the day on Sunday, so I
will try to be there then as well. Let the hauling begin!
