<br><font face="Book Antiqua" size="3"><b>1. Garden Listing web updates </b></font>
<br><font face="Arial" size="2">I am presently updating your garden listing
on the web. This is an important advertisement for your garden. Several
calls have been trickling in for garden plots. New gardeners are
encouraged to look at the website where they read the descriptions of the
garden. I also ask where people live and try to match them with a
garden close by. People tend to like gardening closer to home. Some
garden listings need updating and Michele Zurbrigg will be contacting those
specific gardens.</font>

Kristin</b></font>
<br><font face="Arial" size="2">At the end of January we had a chance to
meet with the four gardens that participated in the Design Charrette for
accessible designs. The gardeners shared their vision for their community
garden and we began to plan for the implementation of that vision. With
a presentation and assistance from Trevor Barton of the Guelph Enabling
Garden, we determined next steps in implementing the design and are beginning
to roll out the plans. If you are interested in assisting with the implementation
or planning of the gardens, please contact Kristin at <a href="mailto:rkristin@region.waterloo.on.ca" target="_blank">rkristin@region.waterloo.on.ca</a>.

<br><font face="Arial" size="2">Greg Michalenko is finishing the final document
to present to area municipalities. It is an excellent report summarising
the benefits of our community gardens and the need for local community
garden policy and support from each municipal area. Some of the cities
are beginning their consultations in March. Greg will be needing
<b>you </b>- community gardeners from each area to attend. We will
keep you posted.</font>
<br>
<br><font face="Arial" size="2">You may have wondered what is the hoopla
about garden policy? The ROP! The MOP! Why is it important to community
gardens?</font>
<br>
<br><font face="Arial" size="2">Policy development is important in bringing
urban agriculture to the forefront in communities and helps gardens get
the support they need from their decision makers. Supports that are
important for the long term survival of the garden like land tenure, water,
etc... .</font>
<br>
<br><font face="Arial" size="2">An example of what policy can do is with
the City of Seatlle. They have made 2010 the Year of Urban Agriculture
